A MESSAGE FROM CWPW'S PRESIDENT - LEONARD J. NEWMAN, MD

Leonard Newman, MD
President - CWPW

At Children's and Women's Physicians of Westchester, our goal has always been to provide the highest quality medical care in a range of specialties for infants and children though out the Hudson Valley and beyond. With some of the finest physicians in the country working with us, our strong affiliations with major health care institutions from Albany to New York and Connecticut , and our state of the art medical practice, we are able to meet and exceed our mission of delivering comprehensive medical care for infants, children and young adults every day.

At Children's & Women's Physicians of Westchester, we always put the health and well being of our patients first. We're proud of the fact that we have some of the finest physicians anywhere, as well as superior subspecialty care that addresses virtually every conceivable childhood illness or condition. Medical care only gets more complex with time, and our doctors are at the forefront of advances in pediatric medicine to diagnose and treat every child.

Over the winter we've undertaken some positive moves that are already bearing fruit and going a long way toward making CWPW even better. We've added several new satellite offices to CWPW in order to broaden our service area and treat even more children in the lower Hudson Valley region. We're pleased to report that Croton Pediatrics has joined the CWPW family of pediatric practices. In addition, Pomona Pediatrics has become a member of our pediatric group, as has Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine of New City. These fine practices will continue to provide outstanding medical care to children, with the added medical and administrative support and expertise of CWPW.

Summer is a time of relaxation and for children, seemingly endless days of outdoor recreation. Regardless of the time of year, the skilled physicians at Children's & Women's Physicians of Westchester are always cognizant of the perils that can befall children inside and outside the home. During the summer months, when there is a great deal of free time and families head to the water or recreational facilities to enjoy the warm weather, there are a myriad ofhazards and potential for harm that can impact children. At CWPW, our physicians are constantly providing guidance and valuable input on how to keep children safe in the summer, and how to react should they confront danger.

In the Summer 2011 Newsletter we're providing a range of valuable tips on how parents can keep their children safe at the shoreline — whether it's at the lake, the river, the sound, the ocean, or at the community or backyard pool. There is no greater summer hazard than at the water, and in this newsletter we offer some valuable tips on how to ensure that children can remain safe while still having a good time.

The sun also poses its own hazards, and here we also offer some concrete advice on protecting the skin of children at any age.

While families are on vacation they also need to give serious thought to protecting their children against a host of diseases. In this newsletter we outline the immunizations that children need in order to start school and participate in sports. Protecting children is vital, and at CWPW we want to ensure that every child in the region has his or her proper immunizations and is fully protected.

Regardless of the season, many children are plagued by sleep disorders; either too little sleep, too much, or restless sleep. Determining whether your child has a sleep disorder is important to his or her overall health, and in this newsletter our pediatric sleep expert outlines some of the causes and telltale signs, and how to revise habits for restful, healthy sleep.

CWPW continues to grow, and we're pleased to welcome Washingtonville Pediatrics into our family of quality pediatric offices.

Please feel free to get in touch with us if you have any questions, comments or story ideas. We'd love to hear from you. E-mail us at: info@cwpw.org.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer!
